  • Language: English
  • Stay: Kyoto, Nov 5–15 / Tokyo, Nov 15–Dec 2
    • Alter Ego and Physical Creative Research

Scoop Slone States: Observation and To Quarry: Glacial Third Hives
Scoop Slone will give a brief overview of a multidisciplinary practice that integrates Butoh, science, ancient archaeology, futurism, alternative folk craft techniques, and the use of alter ego through gender-fuck queer drag and fashion, tracing both historical and modern connections to Japanese culture and tradition.

      Bio

Scoop Slone is an NYC-based Butoh dance performance artist whose practice explores individual and collective queer identity and memory through the intersection of Butoh, garmenting, gender-queer club-kid drag, installation, and experimental music theatre. Drawing from speculative science fiction, ancient archaeology, quantum physics, shamanism, psychology, and folk art, Slone seeks to tangibly transcend boundaries of space and time through altered consciousness and physical states manifested by Butoh dance.
Stay & Related Information In November, I plan to participate in the Kyoto International Dance Festival, Jogonin in Shiga, research at the Hijikata Archives Keio University Tokyo, Butoh Dance Study, and filming video installation related to Anma.

3. Artqpie:HUANG, SYUAN-JIN & Yu-Hong Chiang

  • Field: Design
  • Language: English
    • Plan:Sector — From Taichung to Kyoto

Artqpie will introduce the development of Plan:Sector, an ongoing research and publishing project exploring how bookstores, reading spaces, and local publishing cultures can offer different ways of understanding a city, and will share what they hope to explore in Kyoto through field research, conversations with local bookstores and cultural practitioners, and exchanges with the local community during their residency at Kyodo Shoko.

      Bio

Artqpie is a creative space and collective based in Taichung, Taiwan, working across exhibitions, independent publishing, and cultural research. HUANG, SYUAN-JIN works primarily in editing and publishing, while Yu-Hong Chiang is a graphic designer; together they create independent publications and zines inspired by observations of everyday life, local culture, and the places and people they encounter. Their ongoing project, Plan:Sector, began as a study of independent bookstores in Taichung and later expanded to Tokyo through interviews, field research, publishing, and exhibitions, exploring how bookstores and publishing can offer ways of understanding a city and connecting people across cultures. Through their residency in Kyoto, they hope to continue developing these exchanges between Taiwan and Japan.

4. Ghazaal Nasiri

  • Field: Art - drawing, embroidery, ceramics, traditional craftsmanship
  • Language: English
    • Automatism

In this presentation, Ghazaal Nasiri will introduce her artistic practice. Rooted in traditional craft techniques such as drawing, embroidery, and ceramics, her work layers mythical storytelling with personal history, looking closely at cultural memory, psychological trauma, and the lingering effects of suppressed emotion. These themes emerge intuitively, shaped by the materials she chooses and the slow, repetitive gestures of making. As an Iranian immigrant, she approaches myth not only as a reference to her cultural background, but also as a framework through which she traces and expresses complex feelings of identity, silence, and unspoken anxiety.

      Bio

Ghazaal Nasiri is a visual artist exploring cultural memory, psychological trauma, and the lingering effects of suppressed emotions through drawing, embroidery, ceramics, and other forms of traditional craftsmanship. Nasiri holds a BFA in Painting from Shiraz University of Arts and an MFA from the National Academy of the Arts (KHiO) in Oslo. Her work has been exhibited at Kunstnernes Hus, Oslo, and Brigade Gallery, Copenhagen, and she is set to make her institutional solo debut at Kunstnerforbundet, Oslo, in 2028. She currently lives and works in Oslo, Norway.

      5.Michaela Fenkl

    • Field: Art — Visual Poetry & Traditional Craft
    • Language: English
      • Visual Poetry: The Anatomy of Language – Translating Words into Living Forms

In this presentation, Michaela Fenkl will explore what happens when language leaves the page and takes on a new body or life, through her work in poetry, visual art, books, objects, tattoos, and collaborations. She will also share her research into traditional Japanese crafts, which follows her residency in Himeji where she worked with leather craftsmanship, and the question of whether traditional techniques can become another form of language.

        Bio

Michaela Fenkl is a Czech multidisciplinary artist and author of three poetry collections. Her work has been presented internationally, including collaborations across Europe and Asia. In 2025, she undertook an art residency in Himeji, Japan, working with local leather craftsmanship.
