Kyodo Shoko
◎Overview
Kyodo Shoko is a private library that seeks to open personal book collections to the local community and share books as a public resource.
Located near Nijo Station in Nakagyo Ward, Kyoto, the space was established in February 2025 by former residents of Kyoto University's Kumano Dormitory. The renovated house contains a collection of more than 1,500 books on the first floor and a Japanese-style reading room and event space on the second floor.
More than simply a place to store books, Kyodo Shoko functions as an open space where people gather to read, talk, and think together through books. Researchers, editors, translators, architects, artists, and other practitioners regularly participate in talks, reading groups, workshops, and cultural programmes.

共同書庫は、個人の蔵書を地域にひらき、本を公共的な資源として共有することを試みる私設図書館です。
京都市中京区・二条駅近くに位置し、京都大学熊野寮出身者によって2025年2月に開館しました。一軒家を改装した空間には、1階の土間スペースに1,500冊を超える蔵書が並び、2階の和室は読書室兼イベントスペースとして利用されています。
単なる本の保管場所ではなく、蔵書を媒介に人が集まり、読み、話し、考えるための開かれた場であることが、この施設の大きな特徴です。

Kyodo Shoko was founded by former residents of Kyoto University's Kumano Dormitory and operates as an independent library and cultural space.
The space regularly hosts researchers, editors, translators, architects, artists, and other practitioners through talks, reading groups, workshops, and public programmes.

- This facility is not intended as a large-scale production studio or fully independent atelier.
