◎Overview
ANTI MORAL SCHOOL is a highly layered creative space created through the DIY renovation of a former residential house. It functions as a hub where making, exhibiting, and conversation coexist. The building is organised vertically, with a small exhibition space on the ground floor, an office on the second floor, and a shared studio on the third floor. Over time, the space has been shaped by the contributions of many artists and creatives, resulting in a dense and distinctive environment.
In Japan, creative expression can sometimes become unconsciously standardised through existing systems, institutions, and cultural norms. Perspectives from outside these contexts can help challenge such assumptions and introduce different ways of sensing, thinking, and creating. By welcoming international creatives with diverse cultural backgrounds into this intimate yet open environment, we aim to create opportunities for existing values and creative practices to be questioned, expanded, and reimagined.
During the residency, artists will be encouraged to engage in collaborative projects, open studio activities, and public talks, creating direct encounters between residents, local practitioners, and visitors. Rather than simply providing a place to stay and work, this residency seeks to foster meaningful exchanges between different creative practices and perspectives, generating new forms of expression and relationships. These processes will also become part of the ongoing development of ANTI MORAL SCHOOL, contributing to a longer-term culture of dialogue and exchange.

ANTI MORAL SCHOOLは、一般の元住居をDIYで改装した密度の高い空間であり、制作・展示・対話が混在する拠点として運営しています。1階の小展示スペース、2階のオフィス、3階のシェアスタジオが垂直に連続する構造を持っており、何人ものクリエイターの要素で濃密に作り上げられたユニークな環境になっています。
日本における表現は、制度や文脈の中で無意識に均質化されやすい傾向があります。一方で外部の視点は、その前提を解体し、異なる身体感覚や思考のレイヤーを持ち込む契機となります。この閉じたようで開かれた環境に、異なる文化背景を持つ海外クリエイターを受け入れることで、既存の価値観や制作の前提を揺さぶる状況を意図的に生み出したいと考えています。
滞在期間中は、共同制作や公開制作、トークイベントなどを通じて、作家同士および来場者との直接的な接触を生み出します。本レジデンスは、単なる受け入れにとどまらず、異なる背景を持つ実践が交差することで、新たな表現の形式や関係性を生成する場となることを目指しています。また、そのプロセス自体をANTI MORAL SCHOOLに蓄積し、継続的な文化的交換へと接続していきます。

ANTI MORAL SCHOOL is located in a quiet residential neighborhood in eastern Kyoto, near the foothills of Higashiyama. The area offers a unique balance between nature, historical landmarks, and contemporary culture. Within walking distance are temples, local cafés, supermarkets, and bus connections to the city center. The surrounding environment provides a calm setting for research, production, and daily life while remaining connected to Kyoto's vibrant cultural scene.

ANTI MORAL SCHOOL Inc. is an artist-run space and production base founded in 2025 by artist R E M A.
Located in a four-story residential building in Kyoto's Sakyo Ward, the space functions as a small but flexible environment where exhibition, production, residency, and community exchange coexist. Rooms are transformed according to the needs of each project, serving as exhibition spaces, shared studios, offices, or living quarters. Through this adaptable structure, the organization aims to create opportunities for interaction among artists, researchers, curators, craftspeople, and individuals from diverse backgrounds.
The name "ANTI MORAL" does not imply a rejection of morality itself. Rather, it represents an attitude of questioning established values and norms, and reconsidering them through one's own critical thinking. Through artistic practice, ANTI MORAL SCHOOL seeks to foster encounters between different perspectives and experiences, generating new forms of dialogue and expression. The organization regularly hosts artist residencies, exhibitions, talks, and other cultural programs.

R E M A is a contemporary artist based in Kyoto, Japan, working primarily in sculpture, installation, and drawing.
Using materials such as sand, FRP, and metal, REMA's work explores themes of human existence, the body, and identity. In recent years, the artist has participated in exhibitions and public art projects both in Japan and internationally, including in Hong Kong and Thailand.
ANTI MORAL SCHOOL was established in response to the lack of accessible production spaces and opportunities for exchange that REMA experienced as an emerging artist. The project aims to cultivate an environment where people from different cultural and professional backgrounds can live, work, learn, and engage in meaningful dialogue together.
By providing a base in Kyoto—a city where history and contemporary culture coexist—ANTI MORAL SCHOOL hopes to create opportunities for unexpected encounters with people, culture, and place, allowing visiting artists to deepen and expand their own practices.

      砂、FRP、金属など多様な素材を用いながら、人間の存在や身体、アイデンティティについて考察する作品を発表しています。近年は日本国内に加え、香港やタイなど海外での展覧会やパブリックアートプロジェクトにも取り組んでいます。
      ANTI MORAL SCHOOLは、自身が若手作家として活動するなかで感じた、制作場所や他者との交流機会の不足をきっかけに立ち上げました。異なる文化や専門性を持つ人々が滞在し、ともに学び、対話しながら制作できる環境を育てることを目指しています。

◎Precautions and Prohibitions
  • Please smoke only in designated areas.
  • No visitors after 10:00 PM.
  • Please be considerate of neighbors and keep outdoor conversations and indoor noise to a minimum after 10:00 PM.
  • As the residency is located in a residential area, projects involving loud tools, machinery, or other significant noise must be discussed in advance.
  • Please respect the building and avoid any activities that may damage the interior.
  • Guests are asked to follow Kyoto's garbage sorting and recycling regulations.
