1. ビルギット・ヴィック

歴史ある家で描く ― 山口書店でのレジデンス制作

 

ビルギット・ヴィックが、京都・山口書店（＊＊＊ in Residence KyotoYamaguchi shoten Publishing Co. - ＊＊＊ in Residence Kyoto）での5週間のレジデンス中に制作した作品を紹介します。歴史ある建物の中で、日本の墨と和紙を用い、墨・筆・紙、そして建築との対話として光と影を探りながら、約15メートル（50フィート）の墨の巻物と抽象画を制作しました。

今回の発表では、その制作の過程と考えをご紹介します。

 

クリエイター紹介

カリフォルニア州サウサリートを拠点に活動する、受賞歴のあるデザイナー・画家。ドイツでグラフィックデザインを、スイスとサンフランシスコでエクスプレッシブ・アーツを学ぶ。

筆と墨を用いて東洋と西洋の美意識を融合させ、瞑想的かつ直感的なプロセスから、具象にとらわれない抽象的な作品を制作している。重層的な質感、有機的な形、素早い筆致による躍動的な線が特徴で、筆は、思考や感情といった移ろう現象からなる内なる風景の延長として働く。

2. サラ・ベンサルタナ

写真とお香で辿る「面影」と「神隠し」

 

2024年の日本でのレジデンスで始めた、神隠しと面影の概念を写真の壊れやすい物質性から探るプロジェクト「I was looking for a ghost and I found its silver bones」の展開を紹介します。

日本各地で集めた銀の劣化した古写真や、廃社・廃墟の写真に化学的な処理を施し、見る角度によってのみ銀が浮かび上がるイメージをつくってきました。

今後の滞在では、お香職人と協力してお香の紙を開発し、イメージを香り・煙・灰としても存在させることを試みます。発表では、作品や、完成していればお香の紙の試作をご覧いただきます。

クリエイター紹介

フランスとスペインにルーツを持ち、コペンハーゲンを拠点に活動するアーティスト。トゥールーズの IsdaT で美術修士課程を優秀な成績で修了し、デンマークのフュン美術アカデミーでも学ぶ。直近では、横浜とフランス国立科学研究センター（University of Toulouse (LAAS-CNRS)）でレジデンスを行った。

光と自然の神秘性、土地のアニミズム、記憶の物質性を探求し、「イメージは撮るものではなく、住まうもの」という考えのもと、消えゆく世界の断片としての写真を制作している。作品は『Der Greif』などに掲載されている。

 

3. マリチュ・デュラン

京都のドイツ人パン職人 ― 圓田でのレジデンス制作

 

パン職人のマリチュ・デュランが、自身のバックグラウンドや現在の職場、そして京都のパン屋「圓田（YENTA）」で取り組んでいるプロジェクトについてご紹介します。現在は圓田でレジデンス制作を行いながら、パンづくりを通して、地域の文化、場所、人々の関係性を探っています。今回の発表では、パンをめぐる日常の出会いや対話が、どのような新しい交流や実践へと広がっていくのか、その展望もお話しします。

クリエイター紹介

フランス生まれ、ドイツ育ち。大学で美術史と日本学を学び、東京への交換留学をきっかけに日本での暮らしが大好きに。修士課程の修了直前に進路を変え、パン職人の道へ。ベルリンの小さなサワードウベーカリーで働きながら製パン学校に通い、2025年夏に卒業。現在は左京区のパン屋「圓田（YENTA）」で働きながらレジデンスを行っています。滞在中は、日本の小麦粉やオーガニック食材の扱い方、日本のお客さんに合うパンづくりを学びつつ、ドイツのライ麦パンの紹介、プレッツェル（Brezel）のイベント、家庭でのパンづくりワークショップを予定している。

 

4. ティムール・レング

解釈学的エリプシス ― 「在ること」のかたちが変わるなかで、消えていくもの

 

今回の発表では、ヌミノーゼ（聖なるものの体験）を詩的に読み解きながら、「そこに在る」という感覚が途切れる瞬間に何が現れるのかを探ります。それが、私たちが存在の意味を静かに捉えていく仕方について何を明らかにするのか。そして、そうした問いを音による制作のなかで、どのように解釈に開かれた形へと翻訳しているのかをお話しします。

クリエイター紹介

哲学的な問いと詩的なリサーチを通して、音を探求するアーティスト。音を作曲の媒体としてだけでなく、アイデアが変容していく語りの空間として捉え、そのアイデアを、解釈に開かれた芸術形式へと翻訳することを試みている。作曲と実験を通して、音を曖昧さ・宙づり・内省のための夢のような空間として用い、聴くことが感覚的になり、感情や知覚の変化をもたらす場をつくる。

Painting in a Historic House: A Residency at Yamaguchi Shoten

Birgit Wick will share about her work during her five-week residency at Yamaguchi Shoten in Kyoto(https://asterisk-kyoto.info/246244a9faec8163a765d51ca7d6fc01).　Working within this historic building and utilizing Japanese ink (sumi) and washi paper, she produced a roughly 15-meter (50-foot) ink scroll and abstract paintings, exploring light and shadow through a meditative dialogue between the materials—ink, brush, and paper—and the architecture itself.

This presentation introduces the creative process and the concepts behind the work.

Bio

Birgit Wick is an award-winning designer and painter who lives and works in Sausalito, California. She studied Graphic Design in Germany, and Expressive Arts in Switzerland and San Francisco. Birgit’s passion is brush and ink, blending eastern and western aesthetics. Engaging in a contemplative and intuitive process of painting, free of literal representation, she mostly creates abstract compositions with richly layered textures, organic shapes and dynamic lines with swift, expressive brush strokes. The brush acts as a direct extension of an inner landscape of passing phenomena, such as thoughts and emotions.

2. Sara Bensaltana

Omokage and Kamikakushi through Photography and Incense



 

Sara Bensaltana will present "I was looking for a ghost and I found its silver bones," a project begun during her three-month residency in Japan in 2024 that explores kamikakushi (神隠し) and omokage (面影) through the fragile materiality of photography. Using found photographs marked by silver damage, along with images of abandoned shrines and ruins, she chemically provokes silver mirroring that appears only at certain angles. During her upcoming stay, she will collaborate with local incense artisans to develop incense paper, expanding photography into scent, smoke, and ash. The presentation will include prints and, if ready, tests of incense paper.

Bio



Sara Bensaltana is a French-Spanish artist based in Copenhagen. She graduated with honors from a master's in fine arts at IsdaT in Toulouse and has also studied at the Fynske Kunstakademi in Denmark. Her most recent residencies were in Yokohama and with the French National Centre for Scientific Research (University of Toulouse (LAAS-CNRS). She explores the mystical qualities of light and nature, the animism of territories, and the materiality of memory. For her, images are not captured but inhabited: each photograph is a fragment of a vanishing world. Her work has been featured in Der Greif.

3. Maritchu Durand

A German Baker in Kyoto: A Residency at YENTA



 

Maritchu Durand will introduce their background, where they work now, and the projects they are developing with the Kyoto bakery, YENTA (圓田). Durand is currently in residence at YENTA, exploring the relationships between local culture, place, and people through bread making. The presentation will also look ahead to how everyday encounters and conversations around bread may grow into new exchanges and practices.

Bio



Maritchu was born in France and grew up in Germany, where they studied art history and Japanese studies. An exchange in Tokyo made them fall in love with life in Japan. Just before finishing their master's, she changed course to become a baker, working at a small sourdough bakery in Berlin while attending baking school, and graduated in summer 2025. They are now doing a residency at YENTA, a bakery in Kyoto.

4. Timour Leng

Hermeneutic Ellipses: Fading Through Altered Modes of Presence



Timour Leng offers a poetic reading of the Numinous. The presentation explores what a rupture in presence might reveal about the silent ways we make sense of being.

 

Bio



Timour Leng works with sound through philosophical questioning and poetic research. Leng approaches sound not only as a medium of composition but as a narrative space through which ideas can be transfigured, translating them into artistic forms that remain open to interpretation. Through composition and experimentation, he uses sound as a dreamlike space for ambiguity, suspension, and reflection, where listening can become sensory and may offer emotions or an altered way of perceiving.
