Paul Bonneville
Short Biography
Paul Bonneville is a French fashion designer holding a double Master’s degree in fashion from ENSAD in Paris and Bunka Fashion Gakuen in Tokyo. In 2022, after a year at Bunka, he chose to remain in Japan to gain initial professional experience—first at CFCL, assisting the artistic director, and then at Yohji Yamamoto’s atelier as a pattern-making assistant. Returning to Paris, he completed his graduation collection 9738km at ENSAD while working freelance for Japanese brands including Auralee and Undercover. His practice bridges France and Japan, with a long-term vision of establishing his own design studio in Japan.

ポール・ボヌヴィルは、パリのENSADと東京の文化服装学院でファッションのダブル・マスターを取得したフランス人ファッションデザイナー。2022年、文化服装学院での1年を経て、日本での初期実務経験を積むために滞在を継続。CFCLでアーティスティックディレクターのアシスタントを務めた後、ヨウジヤマモトのアトリエでパタンナーアシスタントとして勤務した。翌年パリに戻り、ENSADで修了制作《9738km》を完成させる傍ら、AuraleeやUndercoverなど日本ブランドのフリーランス案件にも携わった。現在はフランスと日本をまたぐ活動を展開し、日本に自身のデザインスタジオを設立することを長期的な目標としている。

Your plan during the residency
For Nuit Blanche Kyoto – in Résidence 2025, Bonneville proposes to extend the research from his graduation collection 9738km into Kyoto. After exhibiting the project in France, he aims to develop a new iteration in another Japanese city, exploring a different urban structure and deepening his site-specific approach. Drawing inspiration from the residency’s location and historical context, he will add a Kyoto chapter to the collection and produce an original piece to be exhibited alongside existing works.
The Nishijin weaving technique fascinates him and will serve as a starting point for new production during the residency. He envisions exhibiting in the old factory, creating a soundscape in collaboration with the store owner, and delivering presentations and fittings in Japanese or English. This will allow visitors to experience the collection as a living work rather than a static display. Through these activities, he hopes to receive direct feedback, connect with Kyoto’s creative community, and establish a long-term relationship with MAGASINN KYOTO.

Nuit Blanche Kyoto – in Résidence 2025 では、修了制作《9738km》のリサーチを京都に拡張する。フランスでの発表を経て、日本の別都市で新たなバージョンを展開し、異なる都市構造を探ることでサイトスペシフィックなアプローチをさらに深める。レジデンスの立地や歴史的背景から着想を得て、コレクションに「京都編」を加え、それに基づくオリジナル作品を制作・展示する予定である。
特に興味を持つのは西陣織であり、これを新作制作の出発点とする計画だ。旧工場での展示に加え、店舗オーナーとの協働によるサウンドスケープを制作し、日本語または英語でのプレゼンテーションやフィッティングを行うことで、来場者に静的な展示ではなく生きたコレクション体験を提供する。これらの活動を通じて、直接的なフィードバックを得るとともに、京都のクリエイティブコミュニティとつながり、MAGASINN KYOTOとの長期的な関係を築くことを目指している。
